1852 SEELEY Potato Digger Patent 6412
- UNITED STATES PATENT FFICED
- JESSE N. SEELEY OF FORSYTH GEORGIA. IMPROVEMENT IN POTATO-DIGGERS.
- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. dated December 21 1852.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I JESSE N. SEELEY of Forsyth in the county of Monroe and State of Georgia have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Potato-Diggers; and I do ]iereb^ declare that the following is a fall clear and exact description thereof reference being had to the accompanying drawing and letters marked thereon forming a part of this specification.
The accompanying drawing represents my improved potato-digger. It consists of a beam a provided with handles or helves b b resembling an ordinary plow and a wheel c which has its bearings in said beam; and secured to the front end of said beam at right angles to it is a knife d which is for the purpose of re-moving the tops or stalks of the potatoes; and secured to the after part of said beam and projecting down in the rear of wheel c is a fork e composed of several curved prongs whichis for the purpose of scooping up and discharging the potatoes.
I To operate it it is seized by the handles and I pushed forward the front and rear ends alternately elevated and depressed the wheel serving as a fulcrum in such a manner as to cut and remove the stalks with the knife and scoop up the potatoes.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is
The construction of a potato-digger by the combined arrangement of the knife cl wheel c and fork e with the beam a operating substantially as in the manner set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing witnesses.
JESSE N. SEELEY.
