Walter F. “Mike” Seeley of Nichols

Walter F. “Mike” Seeley, 63, of Owego Nichols Road, died suddenly on Saturday, July 21, 1990.  He was born on June 6, 1927 in Tioga Center, a son of the late Franklin Leslie and Sarah (Wiggins) Seeley.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army, a member of the Lounsberry United Methodist Church; Wright-Edsall Post # 1624 American Legion, Nichols; Glenn A. Warner Post #1371, VGW, Owego, and was also a member and former chief of The Nichols Fire Dept.  A well known auto mechanic he had operated several service stations in the Owego and Nichols area. For 19 years prior to his retirement in 1986 he operated Seeley’s Garage in Nichols.  He was an avid bowler for many years and had maintained the Elks Lanes in Owego.  Following his retirement he enjoyed woodworking.  He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gladys (Strickland) Seeley at home; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda Seeley, Trappe, MD, Mikolleen Patterson, Belmont, NC, Saralene and Kevin Hunt, Roxanne and Bernard Dolinich, all of Sayre; his sons and daughters-in-law, Mikel “Buzz” and Andrea Seeley, James and Kimberly Seeley, all of Nichols; his brother and sister-in-law, Henry L. and Ruth Seeley, Ellenboro, NC and sisters, Flora Bruno, Owego, and Mrs. Ralph (Laura) Diller, Willseyville; nine grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his sister, Dora Marie Ritter, Owego in 1985.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, Nichols with his pastor Rev. Linda Bryan and former pastor, Rev. Brown Naik officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Lounsberry with full military honors accorded.  Memorials in Mike’s memory may be directed to his church.  The family will receive their friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 82 Main St., Nichols.
