Roz Sealy

July 15, 1952 – December 7, 2017

Roz Sealy passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 7 at her home as she prepared for Christmas, her favorite time of year. She grew up in Lakewood, WA, married (Jim, deceased) and raised two children mostly on her own as she was widowed at 26. Roz worked hard and graduated from WSU in Zoology and got her dream job with Woodland Park Zoo where she was for 27 years.

Roz was the daughter of Robert (now deceased) and Vel Gerth. She leaves behind her son Thomas Sealy and daughter, Kirstin Sealy, 2 grandchildren, Tommy Sealy and Emmalee Sargent, her sisters Susan Pessemier (Bob), Leslie Noson (Dennis), and her brother Robert Gerth and many other beloved extended family members.

Besides her family, loving and caring for animals was always Roz’s passion. She was there amid births and deaths and her love for the animals never diminished. Roz was recently honored with heart-warming stories shared of her relationship with her family of keepers and all that she taught and shared with them. Roz also became a talented wildlife photographer and generously contributed proceeds from her work to the Skagit Valley Conservation District.

Please visit the Rain Forest at Woodland Park Zoo and speak to the birds. They know her name.

A family celebration of her life will be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Woodland Park Zoo or Skagit Valley Conservation District in Roz’s name are welcomed.
