Judge Robert Ray Sealy, 91

November 1, 1917 – February 21, 2009

Former Limestone County Judge Ray Sealy, 91, completed his life’s journey and went to be with the Lord, Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at First Baptist Church in Mexia, with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating and the Rev. Brad Brittain assisting. Graveside will follow at the Thornton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening, at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia.

Robert Ray Sealy was born Nov. 1, 1917, to Ewell and Effie (Monoghan) Sealy, at their home in the Big Hill community. He was a proud lifetime resident of Limestone County, where he devoted his life’s work to farming, ranching and being a livestock auctioneer. He later served as a County Commissioner before being elected to two terms as Limestone County Judge from 1987 through 1994.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his devoted wife of 49 years, Molly Rodgers Sealy; his brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Quida Faye “Jack” Sealy; and a favorite nephew, Joe Sealy.

He leaves to cherish his memory are sons, Bob Sealy and wife, Donna of Sam Rayburn, and Shannon Rodgers and wife, Lillian of Orlando, Fla.; daughters, Brenda Eakin and husband, Joseph of Tyler, and Charlotte Posey and husband, John and Nina Pool and husband, Wendell, all of Mexia; sister, Grace Saputo and husband, Sal of Huntsville; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many, many friends and other relatives, who will miss his enlightening stories, his mischievous pranks and his words of faith and wisdom.

Pallbearers will be Asa Burgess, Roy DeFriend, Dennis Dornak, Sammy Franklin, David Hughes, D. T. Leggett, Bobby Reed and Jeff Stuver. Honorary Pallbearerswill be Joe Cannon, Holloway Martin, Mike Roberts, Pat Simmons, Dennis Walker, Dennis Wilson and the Hines Sunday School Class.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Frank Boyd, the staff at Limestone Medical Center and the staff at Groesbeck LTC, for their kind and loving care during Ray’s illness, as well as to the many friends who visited and offered their support.
