Robert Mason Sealy

Robert Mason Sealy, 82, of Spotsylvania County died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at his home.

Mason was born in the Partlow area of Spotsylvania to the late Robert and Ivy Sealy. He was a 1944 graduate of Spotsylvania High School, and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served two years during World War II. He was a member of Sylvania Heights Baptist Church. Mason worked for 30 years in the accounting department of the FMC plant, and 27 years at Fredericksburg Auto Auction. He was a member of Elks Lodge 875 for 53 years. He was an avid softball player and manager, having played in the FMC league and the Fredericksburg City Fast Pitch League. He later managed and played with W.L. Allen Concrete (Allen’s A’s). Mason managed and played on several teams that won local and state titles.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Christine B. Sealy; his daughter Janice Sealy of Spotsylvania; his grandson Richard M. Pates of Beaverdam; his great-grandson, Cole Mason Pates of King George County; his brother Frank Sealy and his wife Linda of Fredericksburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Reta Sealy Pates; a grandson, Dennis Lee Beall Jr.; and a brother, Louis Elwood Sealy.

A funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with the Rev. Paul Harfst officiating. Burial with military honor followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Wayne Kellum, Glenroy Green, Bobby Frank Sealy, Matthew Sealy, Ronnie Jordan and Kevin Jordan.
