Richard William Cilley

WASHINGTON — Richard W. Cilley, 62, died Nov. 24, 2005, at his home, following a long illness.

Mr. Cilley was born in Newport, on April 27, 1943, the son of Earl and Zaida (Twiss) Cilley. He graduated from Hilsborough-Deering High School in 1963, New Hampshire Technical Institute in Manchester, and the University of Lowell.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star.

He was an active member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, American Legion Post 59, VFW Post 744, Blinded Veterans Association and Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Mr. Cilley was a civil engineer for Manchester Water Works for 21 years, retiring in 1984, when he moved from Manchester to Washington. Following his retirement he worked for Whitney Bus Service in Hillsborough and as a painter.

In Washington, he was active on several town committees. He was also involved with the Governor’s Council on Disabilities. He was a Friend of the Pillsbury Parks, Washington Historical Society and the Washington Congregational Church. He was a member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Members of his family include his wife of 43 years, Donna (Johnson) Cilley of Washington; two sons, John Cilley of Washington and Shawn Cilley of Windsor; four grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Cilley of Lempster and Carroll Cilley of Washington; two nieces and two nephews.

SERVICES: A calling hour will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Sunday at Washington Congregational Church (lower church), Main Street. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the main church.

Burial will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Hillsborough, in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Washington Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 233, Washington 03280 or to Washington Congregational Church, P.O. Box 20, Washington 03280.

The Bykowski & Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., Manchester, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Washington Congregational Church on Main Street in Washington.

Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church.

Burial will be held in the spring at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Hillsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Washington Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 233, Washington 03280; or to the Washington Congregational Church, P.O. box 20, Washington 03280.
