Mary A. Seelye, 89, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 632 Cedar Rd., St. Marys, died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 2, 1927 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Stanko “Stanley” and Agnes Horvatin. Mary was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School.
On July 10, 1954 in the Sacred Heart Church, she married Harold L. “Sonny” Seelye, who preceded her in death Feb. 7, 2011.
Mary was a member of the Queen of the World Church. Her home on Cedar Road was always open to generations of neighborhood children who enjoyed seeing Sonny’s railroad display. Mary also enjoyed cooking and doing crafts with the neighborhood children.
Mary is survived by a brother, Stanley Horvatin of La Jolla, California; and by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Horvatin and Helen Marrone; and by four brothers, John, Thomas “Tumba,” Thomas’ twin brother, Stephen, in infancy, and George Horvatin in childhood.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Mary A. Seelye to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Thursday, July 20 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Noble, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
