Lois J. Seely, 84, of Clarksville, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Lois was born on Dec. 26, 1932, in Little Cedar, Mitchell County, the daughter of Ralph and Bessie (Tibbits) Sheldon. She graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1951. Lois went to work as an operator at the Waverly Telephone Company, maintaining lifetime friendships with her fellow telephone operators. Lois was united in marriage to Leroy Oltmann. To this union was born two sons, Douglas and David Oltmann. After their marriage, they farmed together in rural Clarksville, and then moved to Stanwood, Wash., where she worked for GTE telephone company. The couple divorced, and Lois moved to Grinnell, and continued to work in customer service for GTE. She was united in marriage to Charles “Chick” Seely on Jan. 16, 1988, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Upon retiring, they moved to Clarksville, where she lived until Chick’s passing on Jan. 25, 2003. Lois then lived in Plainfield for a time, Waverly Homes in Waverly, and then when her health began to fail, moved to Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Lois was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainfield and American Baptist Women. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking for family, and taking care of others. Lois made quilts for many of her family members.

Lois’s memory is honored by: her son, David Oltmann, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two grandchildren, Riley Grace and Myles David Oltmann; two sisters, Doris Bigelow, of Austin, Minn., and Merriem (Jerry) Lane, of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law, Walter Ebert, of Plainfield; and 16 nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by: a son, Douglas Oltmann; her parents; her husband, Chick; and three sisters, Bertha Hennessey, June Knecht, and Gartha Ebert.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with the Rev. Carolyn Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at City of Osage cemetery.
