Leslie Seeley

Leslie Seeley, 55, died Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. The Rev. Marty Schumacher will officiate at the services.

Les was a loving husband and grandfather. Soft-hearted, he loved animals, and was the first to nurse one back to health. Born to Glenn and Ruth Boots Seeley Sr., he lived all his life in the Anamosa and Cedar Rapids areas, except for his time in the U.S. Army. He was proud to be a veteran and was known by many as the “Marion Flag Man.” He would line his whole yard with flags during the veteran-type holidays. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening and his four-legged “kids.” He worked as a machinist and welder most of his life. Recently, he was working as a forklift operator at CCB Packaging, a job he truly loved.
While in the Army he was a Lance Missile Specialist. He learned to arm and disarm nuclear warheads. He was stationed in Germany during the Chernobyl disaster in Russia.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Diane; a stepson, Joe (Tammy) Lyon, St. Anthony; two sisters, Annette Meyer, Marengo, and Trudy (Carl) Cunningham, Hannibal, Mo.; and three brothers, Glenn Jr. (Linda) Seeley and Darcie (Cindy) Seeley, both of Anamosa, and Chris Seeley, Hannibal, Mo. He has several grandsons and five great-grandchildren, It was a blended family that he loved unconditionally.

He also is survived by special friends (family by heart) Kim (Amine) Cheklal; three honorary grandsons; two honorary great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and especially his niece, Kim (Dave) Speich, who he thought of like a daughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant brothers; and an infant grandson.

He was loved and respected by many and will be missed terribly.
