SEELY FUNERAL RITES ARE SET

Pilot Is Killed in Bayou Crash

Funeral services for Leroy James Seely, killed Friday night when the twin-engine amphibious plane he was piloting crashing into Bayou Barataria at Lafitte, will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. from the Metairie funeral home of L.A. Muhleisen & Son, 2929 Metairie rd.

Requiem Mass will be at St. Catherine of Sienna Church, with interment in Hope Mausoleum.

Mr. Seely was killed while taking off after he had landed the light plane on the bayou near the Little Village area of Lafitte to await the end of heavy rains and high winds.  He was 45.

He was a captain in the Moisant Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and a member of the QBs, a flying organization.

For the past year he had worked as a pilot for J. Ray McDermott & Co. Inc. of Harvey.  Before that, he worked as a switchman for Southern Pacific Railroad, which he served for about 20 years.

As a U.S. Army second lieutenant during World War II he served as a pilot in the Air Transport Command and was stationed in the Azores.

He attended S.J. Peters School and was graduated with a degree in aeronautics from South Dakota State Teachers College.

Survivors include his widow, the former Josephine Reid; four daughters, Mrs. Joanne Roloff, Kay, Susan and Danna Seely, and three brothers, Clayton, Alvin H. Jr. and Bernard Seely.

SEELY – On Friday, May 24, 1968, LEROY JAMES SEELY, husband of Josephine Reid, father of Mrs. Joanne Roloff, Kay, Susan and Danna Seeley (sic), son of the late Annie L. Maillon and Alvin H. Seely Sr., brother of Clayton, Alvin Jr. and Bernard Seely.  Age 45 years.  A native of New Orleans, La. And a resident of Metairie, La. For the past 17 years.

Relatives and friends of the family, also employes of J. Ray McDermott, Southern Pacific Railroad, N.O.P.S.I., Pipefitters Local No. 60, D.H. Holmes and officers and members of I.B. Pilots Association are invited to attend the funeral.

Services from the Metairie Funeral Home of L.A. Muhleisen & Son, 2929 Metairie Rd. on Monday, May 27, 1968 at 11 o’clock a.m. followed by Requiem Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna Church.

Interment in Hope Mausoleum.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Sunday May 26, 1968.
