Laurel Seeley

Scottsdale – Laurel Seeley, a retired teacher from the Scottsdale Unified School District, died with friends by her side on December 19, 2017, at the age of 87.

Laurel was born and raised on Staten Island, NY. She graduated from the Teachers College in Oswego, NY in 1952. After teaching for 9 years in South Dakota, Colorado, and NY, Laurel moved with her young family to Arizona to resume her career in warmer weather. She attended Arizona State University and received her M.A. in Education in 1972. Laurel was a teacher at Navajo Elementary School for over 25 years. She was passionate about teaching, and sharing memories of her students brought her great comfort and happiness at the end of her life.

Laurel was preceded in death by her devoted daughters Kathryn A. Seeley, and Lynda C. Seeley; her beloved parents, Natica and Victor Seger; and her brother, Victor Seger, II. She is survived by her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Richard Seeley of Phoenix, AZ; her loving aunt, Amy “Poosie” Anderson of Tuscaloosa, AL; many adoring cousins, nieces, and nephews; along with her wonderful and supportive neighbors and friends in Scottsdale and Phoenix.

Burial services for Laurel will be held on Staten Island, NY. Donations can be made in Laurel’s memory to the Navajo Elementary PTO,4525 N. Granite Reef Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
