Larry D. Seeley

Opelousas – Larry D. Seeley, 79, passed away at Brookdale Lafayette Senior Living in Lafayette, Louisiana on the morning of Sunday, December 16, 2018. Born and raised in Abilene, Kansas, Larry moved to Lafayette in 1967 to work for Petrolium Helicopters International, Inc. (PHI). Larry served nine years in the United States Army, with three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was trained as a certified helicopter mechanic and worked 36 accident-free years at PHI, where he was a hard worker and very loyal employee. After reluctantly stepping down, his retirement led to many happy times cruising around the world with his loving wife, Judith Thompson Seeley. During Larry’s 19 month stay at Brookdale Lafayette Senior Living, Larry enjoyed the comradery of others at mealtimes. He especially cherished the company of his very dear friend, Mildred Gardemal, who will greatly miss him. Larry was preceded in death by Judith Thompson Seeley in April, 2016. He also leaves behind three caring stepdaughters, Dawn A. Sauro and her husband, Vincent Sauro of Lafayette, Louisiana, Beth Abbott Hodge and her husband Cory Hodge of Lewisville, Pennsylvania, and Joyce Ellen Cazelot of Hessmer, Louisiana, as well as many grandchildren great grandchildren. Larry is also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Inys Cummings. His remaining siblings are Corkey Humphreys of Olathe, KS (formerly of Abilene, KS) and brothers Chet Haynes of Warner Robins, GA, Gerald Haynes of Lynnwood, WA, and numerous nieces & nephews. Visitation will be held at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home at 2845 S. Union Street in Opelousas, Louisiana on Saturday, January 19, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A memorial service for Larry will begin at 1:00 pm, immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or any charity of your choice, in Larry’s memory. A special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana who, though very briefly, passionately cared for Larry at a very difficult time in the final days of his life. Larry will be sadly missed and we thank him for his self-sacrificing contribution to our society. LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas, 2845 South Union Street, Opelousas, LA 70570 has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
