Seeley Dead; Deputy Sheriff
Joseph H. Seeley, 52, of 1542 South ave., deputy sheriff of Onondaga county, 14 years, died at 4:20 a.m. yesterday in Crouse-Irving hospital. Stricken a week ago, he was taken to the hospital Saturday night but failed to respond to medical treatment.
Well liked as a deputy, Seeley had been on motorcycle duty for eight years. Besides police work, he was interested in the affairs of the Elmwood Fish and Game Club, Inc., of which he was one of the founders and president.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Marguerite Barr Seeley; three sons, Alexander and Bruce Seeley of Syracuse and Joseph M. Seeley, Jr., stationed at the naval air base, Corpus Christie, Tex., who yesterday left by plane for home; a daughter Mrs. A. K. Erhard of Syracuse; two brothers, Raymond of Syracuse and John L. Seeley of Rochester; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Sayles of Weedsport; and two grandchildren, Frederick K. and Elizabeth Erhard.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the rooms of Carl Ballweg, Rev. Dr. Arthur L. Berger, pastor of Elmwood Presbyterian church officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. today and tomorrow. Burial will be in Onondaga Valley cemetery.
