J.W. Seeley was born in Delaware county, New York August 12, 1836 and died at his home on Hudson street in Burlington, January 12, 1913. He was married to Harriet Carpenter February 6, 1858 and to this union was born six children, five of whom are still living: Mrs. James Edgar of Beaumont; Myron of Arkansas City; Jesse of Willard, Okla; and Mrs. John Fisher and Miss Ollie Seeley of Burlington. Mr. Seeley moved to Kansas in 1868 and located in Osage county near Key West. He obeyed the Gospel in 1870 and has always been ready and willing to stand up and be counted on the Lord’s side and he was always at his post of duty. Mr. Seeley was not rich in this world’s goods but he was a child of a King and has gone to his inheritance in the skies. He was not only a Soldier of the Cross but he was a Veteran of the Civil War having enlisted in Co. D Third regiment, New York Cavalry and got his discharge in 1865. His last illness was short, being stricken in the morning and dying at 12:30. He had been a resident of Burlington for many years and had a host of friends who mourn their loss and sympathize with Mrs. Seeley who loses a loving husband and with the children who have lost a kind and affectionate father.
The funeral was held at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon in charge of Rev. W.H. Nation of Hartford who will assume the pastorate of the Burlington church.
