John Thomas “Tom” Sealey
1950 – 2015

MANSFIELD: John Thomas “Tom” Sealey, 64, of Mansfield, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 following a lengthy illness.

Tom was born on November 20, 1950, in Mansfield, to John H. and Edith M. (Hupp) Sealey. He had earned an Associate Degree in Business from Mansfield Business College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as a Machinery Repairman Petty Officer Third Class. He loved being on the water and telling about the various places he had traveled. His military training enabled him to have various jobs in his life. He worked 15 years at Midland Ross on the construction of airplanes; and 3 years for Rockwell Int. working on the B1 Bombers. When Rockwell closed its factory, Tom sought a new field of employment, that of an independent distributor. Thus began his 10 year career with Little Debbie Snack Cakes, where he won Distributor of the Year on several occasions.

Tom loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a very loving and caring man to all. He taught his family many valuable life lessons to help make us better people. Among those was his favorite saying “You’re only as good as your word.” Tom was never too busy to stop and talk to anyone and was always willing to help in any way he could, especially if he felt you were being treated unfairly. He was able to turn any deal and made sure that his family was never in need. He loved to play any board or card game and always managed to come out on the winning side. He was a life member of Amvets and enjoyed fishing, watching the Discovery channel, and listening to a good joke, which would bring forth his robust laugh.

He is survived by his wife Janice (West) Sealey; two daughters, Lori (Rick) Rush and Tracy (Matt) Lush, both of Mansfield; eight grandchildren, Thomas Rush, Jonathan Rush, Andrea Rush, Matthew Rush, Kaylee Rush, Courtney Lush, Spencer Lush, and Alyssa Lush; one great-granddaughter, Emily Rush; and one sister, Kathryn Billotte of Columbus.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings, and a fatherly figure, Wes Fluharty.

Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at North Woodbury Alliance Church, St. Rt. 314, Johnsville. Memorial services with military honors will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Cory Schnuerer officiating.

Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd is handling the arrangements.
