Horatio Seeley

Horatio Seeley, 68, died suddenly Thursday morning as he was sitting in a chair in front of his gasoline station on the Dolgeville highway.  His death was noted by a motorist who had stopped for gas.

A short time ago the Standard Oil Company opened a gasoline station near the crest of Rockefeller Hill, on the Dolgeville highway, and secured Mr. Seeley to manage it.  He had a tent there and Wednesday night retired in apparent good health.  Earl Davis, driver of the Dolgeville bus, stopped at the station at 9 a.m. and gave Mr. Seeley the morning paper.  At that time he did not appear ill.  He returned to a chair on the platform of the station after talking with Mr. Davis.

Mr. Seeley was born in Stratford 68 years ago.  In his early life he ran a stage from Little Falls to Stratford.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Rudes of Utica, Dolgeville bound stopped at the station for gas.  Mr. Rudes shouted at Mr. Seeley, who was sitting in a chair in front of the station.  He received no response and got out of the car to investigate.  Mr. Rudes found Mr. Seeley breathing heavily and death occurred almost instantly after Mr. Rudes’ arrival.  He remained at the station and his wife went to Dolgeville for Dr. Barney.  The doctor attributed death to acute indigestion.

Mr. Seeley leaves his mother, who resides in Stratford; one sister, Mrs. Allie Wood of Utica, and one brother, William Seeley of Little Falls.
