Harry Douglas Sealy

QUEENSBURY — Harry Douglas Sealy, 83, of The Landing on Woodvale Road, Queensbury, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born April 16, 1928, in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late George and Rose (Sullivan) Sealy.

On Oct. 16, 1950, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country until his honorable discharge June 3, 1952.

Harry had been a resident of the Glens Falls area for more than 45 years. He retired from the New York State Police in 1983 after 24 years with Troop G stationed in Saranac Lake, Malone and South Glens Falls. He was commended nine times throughout his career. Harry always had a smile and a kind word for those he encountered. He protected and served.

Harry was a devoted husband to Muriel Ronan Sealy for more than 58 years, until her passing July 1, 2011. He was a tremendous father. He was a good friend.

Harry enjoyed cooking. Baking the perfect pie or batch of rolls was for him the perfect challenge. He mostly succeeded.

Harry was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed discussing sports and politics over a friendly game of cards. He was a keen observer of both and could play a winning hand more often than not. Harry and Muriel traveled to Florida for many years to escape the cold, play some golf and visit with family.

Besides his loving wife, four sisters and three brothers predeceased him.

Survivors include his six children: three daughters, Jeanne Everman (John) of Pensacola, Fla., Carol Sealy of Lenexa, Kan., and Mary Ann Libertucci (Tom) of Guilderland; three sons, Douglas Sealy (Barbara) of Queensbury, Gerard Sealy of Washington, D.C., and Kevin Sealy of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren: Russell, Nicholas, Jillian, Gabrielle, Matthew, Christopher, Peter, Alyxandra and Julia; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Friends may call upon the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette Street, Queensbury.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at St. Mary’s Church, Glens Falls with the Rev. Joseph Manerowski officiating.

Burial, with military honors, will follow at Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery, Duell Road, Saratoga.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205 or the National Federation of the Blind, 200 E. Wells St., Baltimore, MD 21230.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, staff and aides at Glens Falls Hospital for their professional comfort and care.

Condolences may be mailed to Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.
