Gertrude Sealy, also known as “Ivel”, 74, passed away on August 9, 2017 in Palm Bay, Florida.

Born in the community of Mon Repos in the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, Gertrude migrated to London, United Kingdom at the tender age of 18 years where she obtained her Registered Nurse Credentials. She worked for many years in the UK before moving to Beaumont, Texas in 1979, where she worked until her retirement in 2012. She spent her retirement years in Palm Bay, Florida until her passing.

She enjoyed gardening and cultivated a variety of fruits and vegetables; socializing with her many friends and family; dancing; and travelling during her early retirement years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Grace community and belonged to the Fifty-Five and Up Club in Palm Bay, Florida where she cultivated many close friends. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality and will be dearly missed by her many friends in Beaumont, Texas, the United Kingdom and St. Lucia.

Gertrude is survived by her son Anthony Sealy of Beaumont, Texas, her sister Edith Fevrier of St. Lucia, her brother Thomas “Grace” Mathurin of the UK and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives in St. Lucia, Canada, Nigeria and the UK.

She was predeceased by her mother Philomene “Ethel” David, step-father Victor David, sister Mary Valcin and brother Joseph (Ogoy) Mathurin.

The funeral service for Gertrude Sealy will be held at Our Lady of Grace, 300 Malabar Road, Palm Bay Florida, at 11.00 am on Monday August 14th, 2017 with internment at Fountain Head Memorial Park, 7359 Babcock ST, Palm Bay. The visitation will be held at the Fountainhead Funeral Home at 9.30 am prior to proceeding to the funeral service at Our Lady of Grace, on Monday August 14th, 2017.
