Gerald “Bud” Seeley, 73, Orofino

Gerald “Bud” Seeley, Orofino, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, from respiratory failure and complications of cancer. He was 73.

He was born Oct. 30, 1935 in a log cabin in Sharon, MI to Roy Seeley and Hazel Calkins Seeley. The family moved to Weippe when he was two. He was raised in Weippe and the Headquarters area graduating from Pierce High School in 1952.

Bud and Shirley Schlader were married Sept. 21, 1957 in Orofino. They lived in Headquarters and Orofino throughout their marriage. Bud worked in the woods and was employed by Potlatch for 38 years until they shut down the woods operations in Headquarters.

Later he worked for various logging companies and drove school bus for Jt. School District #171 and particularly enjoyed driving the Orofino High School girls’ softball team members.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing pool, pinochle, going for drives in the woods, watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Shirley at the family home in Orofino, daughters, Julie and Doug Huffman, Cavendish, Sue and Otis Darden, Meridian, Lori and Jim Beck, Scottsdale, AZ; sons, Charlie and Dianna Seeley and Jim and Barb Seeley, all of Orofino.

He is also survived by sisters, Colleen and Charles Ross, Lewiston, Esther and Don Chrystal, Juliaetta; sister-in-law, Marjean Seeley, Spokane, WA; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jimmy, Dennis and Gary.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, July 18 from 1-4 p.m. at the VFW Building in Orofino.
