ROSHOLT – Calvin Donald Seeley, 89, Aurora, formerly of Rosholt, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in a Brookings hospital.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Bethania Lutheran Church at Rosholt with the Rev. Franklin Pudas officiating. The organist will be Lana Sand.

Burial will be in the Trondhjem Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Rosholt Area Threshermen’s Association and the Rosholt Lion’s Club. Active pallbearers will be Randy Johnson, Naomi Braun, Laurie Johnson, Brian Johnson, Keith Johnson and Kelly Seeley.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Eggers Funeral Home at Rosholt. There will be no prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service in the church Friday.

He was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Wheaton, Minn., the youngest of eight children, to Burton and Dora (Wilson) Seeley. He was raised in the Wheaton/Rosholt area and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1933.

He married Mabel Helen Edland Sept. 28, 1935, in Arlington. To this union, two children were born, Virginia Lee in 1938 and Donald Edward in 1948.

He farmed throughout most of his life, including raising cattle, hogs and sheep. He also drove truck, worked at the Farmer’s Co-op and drove school bus for many years. Calvin and Mabel were active 4-H leaders in the county. He was a charter member of the Rosholt Area Threshermen’s Association and belonged to the Rosholt Lion’s Club. He had also served on the Trondhjem Lutheran Church Council.

He enjoyed bowling for many years, both men’s and couple’s leagues, listening and dancing to Don’s big band music and traveling throughout the country with the camper, which included trips to California, New York, Texas, Washington, Canada, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. His favorite family time was spent playing cards and making homemade ice cream.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel in 2000 and his daughter, Virginia Johnson in 1984.

Survivors include his son, Donald (Jan) of Aurora; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Glenn (Colleen) Edland of Watertown.
