Betty Ruth Selle

July 23, 1931 – October 7, 2018

Betty Ruth, of Del City, was born in Rainey Township, just a few miles east of Rocky, Oklahoma to Andrew and Jessie Ledbetter. Betty graduated from Lake Valley School starring in basketball and softball. Just as she practiced to be the best in athletics, she wanted the best in a husband. She had eyes for Darwin Selle and he had just come back from World War II. One day while riding her bicycle, she took a tumble in front of his car (some suggest purposely). He stopped and helped her up. After that, Betty would ride her bicycle out to the road where he would put up his school bus so that she could see him after his work shift. After a brief engagement, they would marry in Clinton, Oklahoma on August 8, 1948. Sandra Kay was born in 1952 and Sherry Ann was born in 1956. Darwin and Betty would remain married over sixty-five years until his death in 2014. Betty worked as a nurse’s aide in the Cordell Hospital, before they moved from Gotebo to Del City, OK in 1966. She continued her life as a professional working woman at AT&T for fifteen years until she retired. Betty was a member of First Southern Baptist Church-Del City for roughly forty-five years and spent her retirement spoiling her grandchildren and rooting for her favorite sports teams. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Darwin and four brothers: Dennis, Leo, Bob, and Jimmy Ledbetter. She is survived by sisters: Lois Gilliard, Earline Butler, June Fenn, Judy and husband Jim Allen; daughter, Sandra Gregory and husband Johnnie; daughter, Sherry Magnus and husband David; grandchildren, Kristy Birchfield and husband Jerry, Lauren Menard and husband Steve, Andrew Magnus, Joel Magnus, Kyle Gregory and wife Shasta, Brian Magnus and wife Stephanie, and great-grandchildren James Menard and Amariana Gregory. Funeral Services will be held at First Southern Baptist Church-Del City on October 12, 2018 at 10:00 A.M.
