Barbara Brace Seeley, 69, of Bellefonte, and of Deer Isle, Maine, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Centre Community Hospital. Her death was sudden and unexpected.

She was born in Hanover, Grafton County, NH, a daughter of the late Gerald Warner and Huldah Potter Laird Brace. She was twice married. Her first husband, Richard Allan Gotshalk, survives. On May 21, 1967, she married Ralph M. Seeley, who survives. They combined two family and raised six children, all 8 to 13 years old at the start. During that period, they lived in Stormstown, where they lived until October 2002, when they moved to Spring Township, Centre County.

In 1967, she received a bachelor’s degree in English “cum laude” from Penn State, obtained while acting as a single mother of three children. (Correspondent sniped out a very long list of various activities she was involved with)

Barbara first arrived at the Brace family property at Deer Isle, Maine, in 1936, and later administered the property after her parents died.

Her cremains will be scattered on Penobscot Bay at Deer Isle by her family in July. At Deer Isle, she was a member of the Walking Trails Group and the Island Heritage trust

She is survived by her husband, Ralph M. Seeley; two children; Lincoln A. Gotshalk and his wife, Paula T., of Hilo, Hawaii; their sons Brace A. and Drew R.; R. Walter Gotshalk of Lewiston, and his daughter, Meghan M.; three stepchildren; Ralph M. Seeley III, of Washington D.C.; Leanna M. Allen, and her husband, Jim of Goshen, NJ; and their children, Alyssa, Leah and Nathan James; Linnea Riedel and her husband, Oskar, of Duvall and Loomis, WA; a brother, C. Loring Brace, and his wife, Mimi, of Ann Arbor MI, and their three children, Charles, Roger and Hudson.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Gotshalk, of Seattle, and a brother, Gerald Warner Brace, Jr., of Paris.

There will be no funeral. A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held in October at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, State College.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County, 780 Waupelani Drive Extension, State College, PA 16801, or to the Women’s Resource Center of Centre County, 140 W.
