PVT. ANTHONY S. SEELEY
Funeral services for Marine Pvt. Anthony Scott Seeley, 19, of 1935 Elmsford st., who was well-known among state and national debating societies, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the High Street Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Carl Clendenen, district supervisor for the Nazarene Church, will officiate.
Pvt. Seeley died Wednesday in the Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif., of pneumonia.
He was holder of the Degree of Excellence in the National Forensic League; member of District 14 co-champion debate team of the Ohio High School Speech League in 1967, winter of the Donavan Pearson Memorial Speech Award at South High School, and a member of the National Honor Society.
He was born in Columbus, March 2, 1949, the son of Charles and Kathleen Ward Seeley and had lived in Springfield for the past five years. Pvt. Seeley attended Hayward Junior High School and was a graduate of South High School in the class of 1967. He attended Olivet Nazarene College, Kankakee, Ill., until joining the Marine Corps Nov. 27, 1968. Pvt. Seeley was stationed at the San Diego Marine Corps Training Center.
He was a member of the High Street Church of the Nazarene and held a local preacher’s license.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Seeley of 1935 Elmsford st.; two sisters, Mrs. Donna Lovett of Bradley, Ill., and Laura, at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Albert Palmer, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Matilda VanAistyne, both of Portsmouth.
Friends may call at the Conroy Funeral Home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Burial will in Ferncliff Cemetery.
