Alfred ‘Al’ Seely

Alfred “Al” Seely, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, neighbor, golfer, hunter, fisherman and avid RV-er, passed away February 18, 2013, after a hard-fought battle with mesothelioma.

Al was born in Hamptonburg, NY, eldest of 5 children. Raised in Cherry Hill, Hackensack, and Fairlawn, NJ, he started work while in high school as an electrician’s helper and joined the National Guard. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army and spent 4 years in Missile Defense. Al met and married his wife, Janice, while stationed in El Paso, TX. After discharge, he began working for Lockheed Missile and Space Co in Sunnyvale, CA. as an electronics technician and over a 30-year career completed college courses and progressed to Quality Control Field Supervisor, overseeing government supplier contracts for the Western U.S.

Along the way, he and Janice and their 3 children lived in many different states (7 states in all and 12 state-to-state) from CA to NJ to FLA to NV and many states between, making many life-long friends around the country.

In `91, Al contracted lung cancer but successful surgery not only overcame it but helped him decide to take early retirement so in `93 he and Janice embarked on a new adventure as retirees. They first moved to OK and TX to be with her parents but after their passings, Al and Jan continued their “wandering” lives with moves to Cortez, CO, Twin Falls, ID, then Grants Pass, McMinnville, Salem and Albany, OR until they reached their “real destination” – Dallas, OR where they’ve lived for 7 years (the longest of any one place).

During his life, Al, his wife and their 3 children experienced camping adventures from tents to motorhomes and marvelled at the beauty and history all over the U.S., becoming a family of outdoor-lovers who cherish lifetimes of memories travelling with Al.

Al leaves behind his wife of 51 years and daughters DeLana (Douglas), Sue (Boone), and son Jim, plus their spouses Bob, Ernie, and Diania, 7 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren. In addition, brothers William and Frank with wives Annie and Rita and sisters Barbara (Jim Spear) and Pat (Meewes), numerous nieces and nephews and uncounted friends spread all across this great nation. His passing will truly be felt in untold places as he sharpens his golfing, hunting, and fishing skills while waiting for all of us in the arms of his Lord and Savior.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Al’s name may be made to the Dallas Senior Center or M.C. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, TX.
