PROMINENT PAIR IN ELOPEMENT

Co-ed at Swarthmore Is Bride of Colgate University Senior

Nancy Stoddard Seely and William Francis Cutten eloped Sunday afternoon, it was learned yesterday, while returning to the Seely home in Swarthmore from a “prom” in Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y.

The bridegroom, who is a senior at Colgate, is a son of Dr. George Barton Cutten, president of that institution.

His bride, who is a daughter of Dr. Walter Hoff Seely and Mrs. Seely, and a freshman at Swarthmore College, was a guest at the Cutten home during the past week.

The engagement was announced by Dr. and Mrs. Cutten at a dinner Friday evening at the Phi Gamma Delta house.

After a week-end at Hamilton, the couple was on the way to Swarthmore with a party of Colgate friends.

When they reached Binghamton, N.Y., it was suggested they elope.

After lunch they visited the home of Dr. Carl A. Gallgren, now pastor, of the First Congregational Church in that city, and a former professor at Colgate. There they telephoned to Dr. and Mrs. Seely, announced their plans and received parental blessings by phone. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Gallgren, and Mr. and Mrs. Cutten resumed their journey.

The couple was enthusiastically received by students at Swarthmore yesterday. Mrs. Cutten will complete her college year, while her husband will return to Colgate for graduation.

The bride is a graduate of Emma Willard School, at Troy, N.Y. and entered Swarthmore to specialize in English and journalism. Her husband, who is a Canadian, is active in all college affairs, and has achieved a reputation almost paralleling that of his father, who was a Yale football player and coach.

The couple met while the Seelys occupied their summer home in Hamilton.

After Swarthmore closes Mrs. Cutten will continue her studies at a Canadian university, where her husband will teach.
