Jewell Seelye Becomes Bride of George S. Harris
Jewell Seelye, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Seelye of Abilene, became the bride of George S. Harris, petty officer first class, in a ceremony read Saturday evening by Walter H. Adams, dean of Abilene Christian college, at his home near the ACC campus.
The bride wore a heavenly blue dress suit with matching blue and brown accessories. Her corsage was of white carnations.
Mrs. Harris was graduated from ACC with high honors in 1938. While in college she was a member of the Kitten Klub, women’s pep organization, the Ellen H. Richards club, and Las Alegres, Spanish club. She taught for two years at Eastland and at present is English and speech teacher and senior class sponsor in the Holliday high school, a position she has held for four years. She plans to continue teaching this term, and then to return to Abilene to manage property at 1142 Hickory and 1217 North 12th.
Harris, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Harris, was born and reared near Hamlin, and moved to Abilene with his parents in 1925. After that he was line foreman with the West Texas Utilities company until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy on April 1, 1942. He trained at Camp Allen and Camp Bradford, Virginia, and for the past 13 months he has been with the station force in Camp Enolcott, R.I. At his request Harris, was recently transferred to a Naval construction battalion for foreign service.
