Seely-Stilwell Marriage

Marriage vows were exchanged at 8 p.m. Friday, August 19, by Miss Eleanor Lorraine Seely and Merle Stilwell in the Fairdale Methodist Church. White gladioli flanked by candelabra and palms decorated the altar.

A prelude of wedding music was rendered by Miss Carol Davis of Nelson, Pa. Vocal soloist was Mrs. George Golis of Montrose, Pa., who sang “Through The Years”, “Oh Promise Me” “Oh Perfect Love”, and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Immediately upon reaching the altar the bride and groom were administered Holy Communion by the Rev. Henry Kiessel of the Fairdale Church. The Rev. Gail Garst of the Burlington Methodist Church, Burlington, Kans., then officiated at the double-ring ceremony.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlo F. Seely of Fairdale, Pa., was escorted to the altar by her father. She wore a floor-length gown of Schiffli embroidered nylon tulle over satin. It was style with a Peter Pan collar, long tapered sleeves and bouffant skirt. A lace pillbox embroidered with seed pearls held her fingertip veil of illusion. She carried a cascade of white carnations and ivy.

Maid of honor was Miss Joanne Davis of Erie, Pa., college roommate of the bride. She wore a floor-length gown of rose nylon lace and tulle oves taffeta and a matching headpiece. Her colonial bouquet was of rose-pink and white carnations.

Salmon-pink gowns sytled like that of the maid of honor’s were worn by the bridesmaids, Miss Janice Austin of Mahway, N.J., college friend of the bride, Miss Sylvia Seely of Sheds, N.Y., cousin of the bride, and Ninita Stilwell, Mansfield, sister of the groom. Their headpieces matched their gowns and they carried colonial bouquets of salmon-pink and white carnations.

Donald Stilwell of Mansfield, was best man for his brother, son of Mrs. Gladys Stilwell of Mansfield, and the late Albert Stilwell. Guests were seated by Arthur Stilwell of Mansfield, brother of the groom, Giles Seely of Fairdale, Pa., brother of the bride, and Gayle Shaw of Mansfield. Claude Seely of Fairdale was junior usher.

The bride’s mother wore a street-length dress of dusty-rose lace over taffeta and white accessories. The bridegroom’s mother chose a blue silk crepe dress trimmed with lace and wore navy blue accessories. Both corsages were of white carnations.
A reception was held in the church parlors immediately after the ceremony.

The bride was graduated from Montrose High School and will be a Senior this year at Mansfield State Teachers College where she is studying music education. The bridegroom will also be a senior at Mansfield State Teachers College, majoring in mathematics and history. He was graduated from Mansfield High School.
