Rose Belle Seely Hopson

Rose Belle Seely Hopson was born April 22, 1925 in Spokane, Washington and peacefully passed away on February 2, 2018, at her home in Austin, Texas with family by her side. Rose spent her early childhood in Pawhuska and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Following graduation from business school in Wichita, KS, she worked for Gulf Oil Corporation (Tulsa, OK) where she met her future husband, Paul, and they were married in 1953. Rose and Paul called many states home until the couple retired in Midland, Texas in 1986. Rose’s professional career included both banking and business management. She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Midland and a devoted volunteer at both Midland Memorial Hospital and The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum. Rose moved to Austin in 2012 to be closer to family, and made many new friends there. Family always came first with dear friends and neighbors a close second. She will be fondly remembered for her home made pancakes, cherry pies, spicy pickles, jams and jellies, playing golf and tennis, and keeping a close eye on the weather and college sports. Rose was preceded in death by husband, Paul Stuart Hopson, her parents Alfred J. Seely and Miriam McFadden Seely, sister Gerry Seely, and brother Mac Seely. She is survived by son David of Dallas, his wife Mary Louise and grandson Stuart of Dallas, son Kevin, his wife Suzanne and grandson Samuel of Austin, and daughter Paula Hopson Mulay of Mesa, AZ. Final arrangements will be a private family memorial. For those desiring, you may also access the online guest registry and obituary at the Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations to The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, or a charity of one’s choice.
