Phyllis Seeley Burroughs

Phyllis Seeley Burroughs, 73, “went home to be with Jesus” on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Health Center Northwest, surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 13, 1939, to Albert and Beatrice Seeley in Glasgow.

She was raised in Fort Peck while her dad was an engineer building the Fort Peck Dam. She moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1950, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1959. She graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in theater and traveled with the summer stock theater group performing all across the country. She also was part of the Pink Garter Theater in Jackson Hole, Wyo., where she performed in theater productions and danced the can-can.

She met and married her husband, Tom Burroughs, in Idaho Falls in 1964, and traveled for three years with him while he was a musician. They settled in Idaho Falls in 1967, and then moved to Bigfork in 1990, where she still kept her hand in the arts; performing in plays with the Bigfork Community Players, playing piano for Bigfork Children’s Theater and assisting in the box office for summer theater productions. Phyllis also loved playing the piano at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church and taught piano lessons for a couple of years to youth in the valley. She wrote poetry for the Montana Woman magazine, published a book of poems and a children’s book. She volunteered at A Ray of Hope in Kalispell where she donated her time and energies to helping other people less fortunate than herself.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her aunt and uncle, Ambrose and Laura Jo Measure; Ardis and Leroy Measure, and Luke and Alice Measure.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Burroughs; her daughter, Vicki Burroughs; her son, James Burroughs of South Jordan, Utah; her granddaughter, Kristen Hoffman; her brother, Dr. Jim Seeley and wife, Marsha, of Bellevue, Wash.; Ed Measure of Las Cruces, N.M.; Lorraine Measure; Bruce Measure; Susanne O’Connor of Kalispell; and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Hospice, the caring hospital staff and her physician, Dr. Dana Ducote of Bigfork Medical Clinic. A special thanks is in order for AGAPE home health care and the loving caregivers that attended her needs at home prior to hospitalization.

A celebration of life will be observed at 1 p.m. on her birthday, March 13, at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork. A reception will follow celebration of the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cure PSP Foundation.

Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for Phyllis’ family.
