Mrs. Oreal Bassett Ulysses – Ulysses people were saddened Sunday to hear of the death of Mrs. Oreal Bassett which occurred at her home Sunday, November 17, during the church hour. Her death followed several years of ill health. Oreal Bassett, daughter of Charles and Sarah Swymler Seeley, was born in Hector October 22, 1862. She married October 13, 1880 William Allison Bassett and to this union were born seven daughters and one son. Survivors are her daughters: Mrs. Anna Matteson, Rochester, N.Y., Mrs. Lena Stafford and Mrs. Harriett Howe, Whitesville, N.Y., Mrs. Rua Guldenshuh, Corning, N.Y., a daughter, Miss Lettie Bassett and one son Reed Bassett at home. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Livina Green, Ironton, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bassett was a member and worker in the local W.C.T.U. and a member of the Ulysses “70 Club.” In her early life she united with the Ulysses Baptist Church retaining her membership and interest until her death. The funeral was held from the Ulysses Baptist Church this afternoon at 2 o’clock with the pastor, the Rev. N. Johnstone, officiating. Burial was made in Ulysses cemetery.
