Ola Beatrice Seeley Luther

Ola Beatrice Seeley Luther died Friday (March 1, 2019) at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.

Mrs. Luther was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Cumberland County, a daughter of Lester Louis Seeley and Ora Beatrice Padrick. She grew up near Shumway and graduated from Effingham High School. On Sept. 28, 1949, she married Elmer R. Luther in Champaign.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and husband.

She is survived by a sister, Velma Jean Kirchofer, two nieces and a nephew.

She received a B.S. from Eastern Illinois Teacher’s College and an M.A. from the University of Nebraska. She worked in defense plants in Illinois and Wisconsin during World War II, was a ghost writer and taught a University of Wyoming Extension class in Casper, Wyoming. She taught third grade at Fisher Elementary for 31 years. She was Mother Advisor of Champaign Assembly 21, Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was a past officer and secretary of Vesper Chapter 128, O.E.S, also a past officer of Champaign Court 17, Order of the Amaranth and Mizpah Shrine 11 and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers of Champaign County and a member of University Place Christian Church.
