Norma Jean Pontzer

Norma Jean Pontzer, 81, of 130 Beech Rd., St. Marys, died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Pinecrest Manor after a brief illness.
She was born in St. Marys, daughter of the late Edward S. and Mary Ann Caskey Seelye. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1952. She had worked at the Stackpole Carbon Company for six years as a secretary for J. O. Wittman.

On Nov. 10, 1956 in the Queen of the World Church, she married John L. Pontzer, who survives.
Mrs. Pontzer was a member of the Queen of the World Church and was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers at Queen of the World, having taken communion to shut-ins for three years. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels for over 23 years and was a member of three different prayer groups. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, needlework, art, and being with her children, grandchildren, and her husband.

She is also survived by two daughters, Gloria Guericke and her husband Vern of Bernalillo, N.M. and Wanda Bryant and her husband Rich of Downingtown; a son, John L. Pontzer and his wife Roberta “Bobbie” of Dunloring, Va.; three grandchildren, Emily Victoria Paulson and her husband Alex, John Daniel Shutt, and Thomas James Shutt; two sisters, Joyce Leviski and her husband Eugene of St. Marys and Phyllis Bricen and her husband Daniel of St. Marys; and a brother, Howard Gradl and his wife Phyllis of St. Marys.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Louise Seelye in childbirth; and by two brothers, Edward “Sonny” Seelye and John in childbirth.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma Jean Pontzer will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Monday, April 11 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Wolfel, OSB, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, April 10 from 6-8 p.m.
