Myrtle was born October 2, 1922 in South Shore, South Dakota to Edwin and Etta (Palmer) Seeley. She was educated in the Miller School District and spent the rest of her life in Hand County.

On October 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Wesley Ames. This union was blessed with four children, which they raised on the farm near Miller. Myrtle loved being a farm wife, helping with typical farm chores, but most especially enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and providing “home grown” meals and cranking out homemade ice cream for her family.

In 1976, Wes and Myrtle moved into Miller and after his death in 2000, Myrtle moved to the Miller Manor. She enjoyed her few years at the Manor and kept busy socializing with her many friends. In 2007, she moved to the Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller where she resided until the time of her death. While there, she became very fond of all her caretakers and daily told them how much she loved them.

During Myrtle’s lifetime, she was a charter member of the Happy Hustlers extension club and a life time member of the I.O.O.F. Rebecca’s Lodge. She was active in the First United Methodist Church and for many years was a volunteer at the Prairie Good Samaritan Center. Over the years, Myrtle was employed at the Prairie Good Samaritan Center, the Silver Grille, Istas Bakery and did house cleaning for various individuals.

Having been blessed by her life are her children: Jim Ames of Mobridge, Larry (Nancy) Ames of Miller, Jeanette (Milton) Campbell of Clarkston, Wash., and Delores (Marvin) Nielsen of Custer; a nephew, Chester Seeley of Pomona, Kans., 11 grandchildren: David Ames of Pierre, Julie Hoftiezer of Miller, Amanda Ames of Pierre, Terry Ames of Little Rock, Ark., Cindy Lawen, Eric Campbell and Jodi Campbell, all of Clarkston, Wash., and Mike, Mark, Pat and Angela Nielson, all of Custer; 17 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and all her siblings.

Myrtle was the last survivor of the Seeley family.
