Matrid Rita Sealey Cook

August 09, 1917 – February 28, 2015

Matrid Rita Sealey Cook, age 97, of Selma died on February 28, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born on August 9, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Lilly Browning Sealey. Her husband was the late Albert Cook. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Marie Cook and a son, Albert Donald Cook. Mrs. Cook enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and bird watching and feeding until the loss of most of her vision prevented it. She also enjoyed the mountains of our great state and visited them as often as she could. A visit to the Gateway Museum at Old Fort, NC was always a priority. She met and became special friends with Mrs. Jean Lonon, an employee of the museum. A highlight of one of her trips was to eat supper at one of the log cabins on the grounds of the museum at Christmas time. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with Rev. Eddie Jordan and Rev. Steve Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10-11 AM. Surviving are a son, Elton G. Cook of Garner; daughters Lilly Cook of Selma, with whom she made her home and Bonnie C. Jordan and husband Clyde of Raleigh; her brother John H. Sealey, Sr. of Angier; “chosen brother” Herbert Cook and wife Bessie of Wilmington; grandson Daryl Jordan of Middlesex; five step-grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren; and a half-sister Edna Capps and husband Donald of Clayton.
