GILLETTE – Memorial services for Newcastle resident Mary Thoet, 71 will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette by Kenna Lou Rose.
She died Feb. 16, 2004, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, of natural causes.
Born Nov. 12, 1932, in Moorcroft, she was the daughter of Carl “Bud” and Alma (McIntire) Seely of Upton; and was raised and educated in Wyoming.
After high-school graduation, she began working on a dude ranch near Sheridan and met Harry Thoet. The couple was married in 1950 in Sheridan.
They made their home in Newcastle, where she was a homemaker and mother. In the early 1960s, she and her husband moved to Rozet and, as a family, established the Bear’s Den in 1980.
He preceded her in death in 1983, after 33 years of marriage. She then owned and operated the business until 1996, when it was sold and she retired to Newcastle.
She enjoyed the company of her special friend, Cal Butts; loved to crochet afghans and pillows; and like to garden, fish, and visit Newcastle Senior Center.
Survivors include her son, Jim Thoet, and his wife of Rozet; two daughters, Penny Vielhauer of Newcastle and Deb Wigner and her husband of Gillette; sister, Bertha Billings of Upton; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister.
