Mary Waite 1902 – 2003

Mary A Waite, 100, long-time resident of Watertown, S.D., died Monday, April 7, 2003, at a care center.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 11 at the Wesleyan Church in Watertown with the Revs. Jim Biswell and Ron Burkhalter officiating. Burial was I the Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown.

Mary was born November 13, 1902, to Edwin and Etta (Palmer) Seeley at Zell. She was the oldest of 11 children, with five brothers and five sisters. She attended schools in Zell and Frankfort.

She married Morris M. Waite October 1, 1919, at Thomas. They lived in the Thomas, Hayti and Watertown area. Mr. Waite died in November 1980.

Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaining, reading, vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, rug making and quilt making. She was a member of the Watertown Wesleyan Church and as active in the Women’s Ministries of the church until her health no longer permitted.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dean Watson of Watertown; three sons and daughters-in-law, Morris J. and Carol of Humboldt, Beryle and Ellen of Mitchell, and Gary and Betty of Billings, Mont.; 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Clara Wininger of Sun City, Ariz., Ester Kramer of Rapid City, and Myrtle Ames of Miller.
