Marlene A. Palumbo, 78

Marlene A. Palumbo, 78, died peacefully at her home Sunday November 30, 2014 surrounded by loving family and friends following a brief illness.

Marlene, known by Marti to many, was the daughter of Ralph and Harriet (Hattie) Seeley, born November 4, 1936 in Knoxville, Pa. She was the loving and devoted wife of 56 years to her husband Thomas and a loving and caring mother to her four sons Tom, John and his wife MaryKay, Jeff and Greg and his partner Lorraine Brown.

She was a doting grandmother to Kyle, Christopher, Danielle and Mathew. She was an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, and a dear friend to many here in the Valley and around the country.

Besides her husband and sons, and grandchildren, she is survived by brother Mark Seeley of Elkland, Pa., and sister Helen Pratt of Knoxville, Pa., sister in-law Marylou Duffy of Atlanta, sister in-law and brother in-law Virginia and Andrew Schliecker of Waverly.

She excelled in her career as a registered nurse, having graduated the RPH School of Nursing and retired from the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. Marlene was very active in several local organizations including the Valley Jayncee’s, Sons of Italy, VFW Auxiliary, The Red Hat Society and Waverly’s Attic. During the 1980s, she owned and operated the card and gift store “Marlees” in Waverly. In her youth, she was active in the Grange and took pride with her work on the family farm.

A viewing will be held at Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street in Waverly. Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 4 p.m. for family and from 4 to 7 p.m. for friends and community. At 6:30 p.m., the Sons Of Italy will present a ritual at the Blauvelt Funeral Home.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 5 at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 503 Clark St. in Waverly, and a celebration of her life will be hosted by her family at 11:30 a.m. at the Sons Of Italy, 301 Desmond St. in Sayre Pa.

Interment will be at St. James Cemetery in Waverly. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made in Marlene’s name to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Wounded Warrior Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House or charity of your choosing.

Funeral arrangements are provided by the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, New York.
