Marion R. Cartland 94, died Tuesday morning, December 8, 2015, at Porter Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born May 10, 1921 in Middlebury the daughter of George and Grace (Richards) Seeley. Marion was a graduate of Middlebury High School class of 1941. She married Robert Cartland in 1961 at the Middlebury Congregational Church. Marion was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church, Adelphia Circle of Kings Daughters. She was a trustee for the Middlebury Congregation Church for many years as well as the Middlebury East Association.
She enjoyed knitting. She also had a strong work ethics, having worked for numerous businesses. As a young lady she worked at the Grey Shop. She also worked for the Chittenden Bank, Park Drug Store, Churchill’s, and MacIntyre Fuels.
Marion is survived by her 4 close nieces whom she kindly referred to as the “Girls”, numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Robert Cartland who died December 18, 2005, by her siblings, Ray Seeley, Ruth, and Florence Seeley.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, at 10 A.M. at the Middlebury Congregational Church, with the Rev. Andrew Nagy-Benson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington.
Memorial contributions may be made to Homeward Bound at 236 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753 or to a charity of one’s choice . Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.
