Marilyn M. Cowburn

Marilyn M. Cowburn
(May 26, 1924 – January 5, 2005)

Age 80 of Horseheads, NY and formerly of Maurertown, VA and North Syracuse, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 after a short illness.

Marilyn, the devoted wife of the late Arthur L. Cowburn, grew up in the Millerton, PA area.

She is survived by her brothers, Richard Seeley of Tempe, AZ; Jonas Seeley and wife, Rose Mary, of Pine City, NY; four nieces, Jan, Lynda, Mary, and Kathy; nephew, Jeff; several great nephews and nieces; four stepsons, David and Richard Cowburn of Cicero, NY; Douglas Cowburn and wife Patty of Waterville, NY; Art Cowburn of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Marilyn was a strong advocate of, and instrumental in, the founding of the Chemung County Cerebral Palsy Foundation, in conjunction with her mother, the late Mildred Seeley of Millerton, PA.

Marilyn selflessly devoted a large portion of her life to the home care of her son, the late Larry W. Hough, and while a resident of North Syracuse, NY, was a volunteer for the Suicide Crisis Center as a hotline operator assisting teenagers in crisis.

In her spare time, Marilyn was an avid bowler.

Her silent, yet strong, conviction and passionate devotion to those she loved and to the communities she lived in will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY 14904 on Saturday, January 8, 2005 from 1 to 3 PM, with funeral and committal services immediately following at 3 PM. Lay Minister Jennifer Wolf will officiate. Interment will be in the Alder Run Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
