Lorraine Seeley Lucy, 95

Lorraine Seeley Lucy, 95, died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of December 21, 2018. Her daughter Catherine Cicotte (nee Linda Lucy), son Scott and his wife, Cynthia, were with her.

She grew up in Dearborn, MI, the daughter of Dr. James and Irene Seeley, with a younger brother, Robert, and two step-sisters, Avis Pugh and Ardis Kenealy; Ardis survives Lorraine.

It was love at first sight and Lorraine was married to Robert James (Bob) Lucy for 36 active and fun years. They moved to Petoskey in 1960, where they enjoyed sailing, skiing, and vacationing with their many friends, some of them having migrated north from southeast Michigan. They were owners of Bay Sports Shop on Mitchell for 20 years. After Bob’s untimely death in 1983, Lorraine continued to operate the store for a year until she sold it. Following that, she worked in different retail shops and finally in the office at Nub’s Nob for 25 years.

Lorraine was an active member and altar guild volunteer at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She also volunteered at many places, notably McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital (for which she was honored for 46 years of service), Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, Little Traverse Conservancy and Crooked Tree Arts Council. She worked many years during elections at Resort and Bear Creek Township halls.

She enjoyed spending time with her three grandchildren, Andrew, Randall (Bernadette), Allison (Kyle) and great-granddaughter, Vale. They remember many fun winters skiing with their grandma at Nub’s Nob and summer visits that were filled with beach outings and mini-golf, which she often won.

She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and numerous old and new friends. The family is thankful for the cards, gifts, visits and inquiries from Lorraine’s many friends during this difficult time.

If so desired, donations may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or the American Heart Association.

A graveside service is being planned for the spring.
