May 25, 1932 – Apr 4, 2019 (Age 86)

Ms. Geraldine “Gerry” (Sealey) Paxson, born on May 25, 1932 in Rockmart, Georgia, passed away at age 86 on April 4, 2019 in Decatur, Georgia. Gerry graduated from Bessy Tift College in 1955, and taught school in several places around the world, moving as required as the wife of an Air Force officer. She worked at the Omni Hotel of Atlanta when it opened, and later retired from Sears after serving roles in its corporate and regional operations. She spent 20 years after retirement traveling the world with friends and on her own, including a safari to Africa for her 75th birthday. Gerry was known by friends and family for her festive dinner parties, often inspired by a theme that influenced the menu and table settings.

Born to the late Eunice Rutledge Sealey and Clovis Brewer Sealey, Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Maj. Norman Todd Paxson, her son, Todd Paxson Jr., and her sister, Jaynelle Sealey Westmoreland. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Paxson, and brothers James Edward “Bill” Sealey, Joel Sealey, and Kenneth Sealey (Faye) as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. A private Celebration of LIfe is planned for a future date.

Donations in Gerry’s name are welcome and appreciated, to either the Assistance League – Atlanta where she volunteered for many years (https://www.assistanceleague.org/atlanta/) or to the Alzheimer’s Association, which supports Alzheimer’s and dementia care and research. (www.alz.org)
