GREAT BARRINGTON — Ethel Bishop, 83, of North Plain Road died Tuesday at home. She had resided with her niece and her niece’s husband, Andrea and Nick Stanton, and the residents of Cadmus Lifesharing Association since 1998.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., on June 4, 1910, daughter of Arthur and Emma Jones Seeley, she was a graduate of Vocational High School there.

Mrs. Bishop was office manager for the Syracuse office of Pacific Trucking Co. for more than 25 years, retiring in 1967. Before that, she worked in the office of Crouse Hines. One of her early jobs was as a chocolate taster for Nestle’s.

She co-founded the Natural Food Association in Syracuse.

While attending a Great Books discussion group in the Syracuse area, Mrs. Bishop became interested in the writings of Rudolf Steiner. Following her retirement, she moved to Camphill Village, a community based on Steiner’s works, in Copake, N.Y., to co-manage the gift shop for 17 years. She moved to Great Barrington in 1996 to be with her family in a life-sharing community.

She was a lifelong hiker, walker, reader and bird watcher.
