Mrs. Bessie Ellen Starwalt, 78, of 202 Briar Lane, died at 1 a.m. Sunday in Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Tuesday in the Humboldt Christian Church with Rev. Lawrence Beebe officiating. Burial will be in Humboldt Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Shrader Funeral Home in Arcola.
Mrs. Starwalt was born July 20, 1891, in Cumberland County, the daughter of John and Dora Seeley. She married Oliver Starwalt Feb. 20, 1910, in Toledo. He died Nov. 17, 1962.
She is survived by two sons, Willard of Charleston and Rev of Brocton; seven daughters, Mrs. Esther Clark, Mrs. Mona VonBehren and Mrs. Opal Borror, all of Mattoon, Mrs. Charlene Young of Hindsboro, Mrs. Mary Grooms of Sullivan, Mrs. Hettie Reece of Humboldt and Mrs. Alice Speck of Jackson, Mich.; three brothers, Henry and Charles, both of Toledo, and Cecil of Arthur; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Starwalt and her husband lived in Humboldt while he was township supervisor and in Charleston while Mr. Starwalt was county treasurer. They moved to Mattoon in 1959. She was a member of the Humboldt Christian Church.
