Barbara passed away August 24, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born in Gilmore, Washington on October 7, 1932, to Bob and Beaulah Seeley. Barbara was one of four children. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother David, and her best friend of 68 years, Jean Stetler.
Mom’s family moved to Ventura, California in the mid 1940’s. At the age of 13 she met the love of her life, Niles Dugan. On April 2, 1950, Mom and Dad were married and they had three children. Mom graduated from Ventura High School in 1950. While in Ventura, Mom worked for the Ventura Star Free Press. In 1956 Dad was transferred to Bakersfield, California. For the next 59 years our family would call Bakersfield home. Mom worked for E.F. Hutton, Great Western Bank, and Standard School District. During the retirement years, Mom and Dad took a trip to Europe with their good friends Irving and Vi Miller. They bought an RV and began traveling and became members of the Roving Elks. Mom loved taking the RV to Avila every summer to escape the heat. They would have their grandchildren and great grandchildren join them. She loved traveling and they visited every state including Alaska and Hawaii. Mom was also a member of the Lady Elks and belonged to the same bunco group for over 30 years. Mom took a class in cake decorating and made cakes for her family and friends. She also loved quilting, playing cards, scrabble and jigsaw puzzles.
Mom’s greatest love was her family. She never missed a chance for a family get-together. She attended many school programs, sporting events and dance recitals. She was a Den Mother and a Brownie Leader. Mom loved life and her family. Mom will be missed by all. Her family thanks God every day for allowing us to have this remarkable woman in our lives.
Mom is survived by her husband Niles, sister Roberta Meade, brother Dale Seeley and Karen, daughter Bobbee Carter and Blake, sons Chip Dugan and Wanda, Mark Dugan and Debbie, grandsons Chad Moore, Kevin Dugan, granddaughters Amber Mancini and Michael, Karah Berry and Travis, and Whitney Carter, great grandchildren Ashley Stieber and Dallas, Colby Berry, Hunter Moore, Mckenzie Dugan, Austin Dugan, Carlie Berry, and great-great-grandson Noah Stieber.
The family is having a Celebration of Barbara’s Life on September 19, 2015, from 1:00-3:30 at the Kern City Town Hall, 1003 Pebble Beach Dr., Bakersfield, CA.
