Longtime SGS Member Ruth Seelye Passes Away

Publication Date: July 31, 2003 – The News Tribune, Tacoma, Wash.

Ruth was born on January 4, 1930 to Michael and Wanda Kachulis in Tacoma, Washington and passed away peacefully on July 28, 2003 in Lakewood, Washington. Ruth was 73 years old when she was taken into the hands of our Lord. Her husband of 54 years, Daniel P. Seelye, was by her bedside at the time of her passing. Ruth is survived by her sister, Alice Duran; sons, Daniel (Sally) Seelye, Scott (Debbie) Seelye and her grandchildren – who were the joys of her life – Aaron, Adam, Alyse and Logan Seelye. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth Marie (Kachulis) Seelye

Ruth lived all her life in the Tacoma area. After graduating from Lincoln High School she worked as a civil service employee at McChord Air Force base for the 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. With over 30 years of excellent service and retiring in 1985, many of her friends and family referred to her as “General” Ruth. Although Tacoma was home, Ruth and Dan have spent the last 15 winters “snow-birding” at Sparkling Waters in Desert Hot Springs, CA. She loved the tranquility of the desert colors as they interwove into the hills and surrounding mountains as the sun rose and set each day. Taking care of her flowers, bird watching (naming every hummingbird she saw), reading, knitting and enjoying the time with Dan is what she loved to do.

Ruth was involved with AA and was on her 30th year of sobriety. The one prayer that she always entrusted in was the: Serenity Prayer “God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Logan Seelye Donation Fund at any Key Bank Branch.
