Helen Ruth Seelye

Helen R. Seelye, 95, 1105 N. Buckey, lifelong resident of Abilene, died Jan. 26, 1992, at St. John’s Hospital, Salina.
She was born Feb. 21, 1896, in Abilene, the daughter of Alfred B. and Jennie Taylor Seelye. She attended the local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the Class of 1917. She attended the University of Kansas.
For 21 years, she was executive secretary for the Dickinson County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and retired in 1982. In 1984, she and her late sister, Marion Seelye, opened their home for public tours.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Dickinson County Historical Society, the Abilene Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Seelye’s Genealogical Society, an organization, and was active in the Republican party.
Her sister, Marion, died Aug. 5, 1988. Surviving is an adopted grandson, Terry Tietjens, Abilene and other relatives.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Seelye home, with the Rev. Robert Frasier officating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Friends may call at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home through Tuesday evening. The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Dickinson County Historical Society. Gifts may be left at the funeral home.
