UTAH PIONEER DIES AT PROVO

MT. PLEASANT – Hyrum Seely, 85, an early settler of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elias Gardner, 535 East First South, Provo, after a long illness following a paralytic stroke.

Mr. Seely was born in Salt Lake, March 29, 1848, a son of Justus W. and Clarissa Jane Wilcox Seely, who came to Utah by ox team by 1847.

President Brigham Young called the Seely family to settle San Bernardino, Cal., in 1852, where they remained until 1858. They then lived one year in Pleasant Grove and in 1859 were sent to settle Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Seely was married in Salt Lake, February 27, 1871, to Mary A. Goldsbrough of Nephi. They were called to settle Indianola in 1873, returning to Mt. Pleasant in 1912. His first wife died in 1921 and December 15, 1928, he married Mrs. Malvina C. Crane.

He is survived by his widow, of Mt. Pleasant; seven sons and daughters; Mrs. Gardner, Provo; Mrs. C.E. Scow, Rexburg, Idaho; Mrs. W. Karl Hopkins, Ogden; H.E, Seely, Vernal; A.W. Seely, St. Anthony, Idaho; J.R. Seely; Hazelton, Idaho, and O.L. Seely, Fountain Green; two sisters, Mrs. Miranda S. Oman and Mrs. Jens Christensen, Mt. Pleasant, and a brother, Stuart R. Seely, Chester, Idaho.

MT. PLEASANT – Funeral services for Hyrum Seely, 85, pioneer of Mt. Pleasant, were conducted in the North L.D.S. ward chapel here Thursday afternoon. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant City cemetery.

Mr. Seely died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elias Gardner, in Provo, Tuesday after a lingering illness followed by a paralytic stoke. He was born in Salt Lake March 29, 1848, a son of Justus W. and Clarissa Jan Wilcox Seely, Utah pioneers of 1847.

Mr. Seely came to Mt. Pleasant with his parents in 1859. On February 27, 1871, he was married to Mary A. Goldsbrough of Nephi, in Salt Lake. They were called to settle Indianola in 1873, but returned to Mt. Pleasant in 1912. His first wife died in 1921 and in 1928, he was married to Mrs. Malvina C. Crane, who survives him, with seven sons and daughters, two sisters and a brother.
