Henriette Stewart Seely passed away July 23, 2012 from natural causes. She was 95. Henriette was born on Nov. 9, 1916 in Astoria to Henry and Catherine Whitney. Henriette, the oldest of five children, graduated from Mt. Angel Academy in 1935. Henriette married Harold Lamar Seely, an elementary school teacher, on Dec. 27, 1935. The young couple settled in Hubbard, where they raised their family. Harold passed away on Jan. 28, 1992.
Henriette was active in 4-H while her children were young. In her later years, she was active in the Outdoor School program, as well as Catholic Daughters and numerous animal rescue organizations. She had a passion for taking in and caring for abused, abandoned and elderly animals, from dogs to donkeys. She also enjoyed sewing, needlework and was known for her beautiful quilting. Henriette is survived by her four children, Harold Seely, Kathleen Nelson, Patty Heckel and Michael Seely; as well as 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held on July 27, 2012 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, followed by a graveside service at Rock Creek Cemetery.
