MERCHANT DIES OF ROBBERY INJURIES

A 66-year old second hand store operator was dead Saturday, the victim of San Antonio hijackers.

H.W. Seely, owner of a store at 918 West Commerce street, succumbed late Friday in Physicians and Surgeons hospital to a skull fracture received in a holdup March 7.

Seely was alone in his store when two negroes entered and asked to see a coat. While one of the pair was trying on the garment the other stepped behind the merchant and slugged him with an iron bar.

After looting the cash register of $20, the hijackers fled, leaving their victim unconscious on the floor.

A customer entering the store half an hour later found Seely and notified Deputy Sheriff J.J. Kievenhagen. Seely was taken to the hospital, where his injury was diagnosed as a skull fracture.

The iron bar used in the murder was found behind a counter in the second hand store by Kievenhagen. It failed, however, to yield, any fingerprints.

Seely, a native of Owensville, had been a San Antonio resident for 17 years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. None S. Smith of Tulsa and Mrs. E.H. Jackson and Mrs. E.H. Steen, both of San Antonio; a half-brother, B.F. Davis of West Columbia, and two grandchildren, Eugene Jackson and Roy Steen.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. from the Hagy and McColum chapel, the Rev. W.H. Anderson officiating. Interment will be in San Jose Burial park.
