Gilbert B. Seely

Gilbert B. Seely, 59, proprietor at a barber shop at 2219 Railroad street, a resident here the past 54 years, died unexpectedly today in his home, 2118 Cypress street.

Mr. Seely was born in Davison, Mich, July 3. 1891.  He came here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew G. Seely, when he was five years old.

At the age of 13 he began working in his father’s barber shop and became the youngest licensed barber in the State of Michigan when he was 15 years old.

Since the death of his father in 1926, Mr. Seely had operated the barber shop alone.

He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and a charter member of the Master Barbers’ union.

He married Ruth Sloan in Port Huron, June 1, 1915.

Mr. Seely is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Seely; three sons, Gilbert A. Seely, William T. Seely and Raymond C. Seely, all of Port Huron; two daughters, Mrs. John D> Henkel, Detroit, and Mrs. Grandville J. Firth, Port Huron, and nine grandchildren.

The remains are in the Kipp funeral home where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday.

Rev. H.H. Firth, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
